CoCreate SA Mobility Indaba Design
The Mobility Indaba was a five-day event run by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in South Africa. As part of their CoCreateSA initiative, the indaba aimed to explore the topic of mobility as a key driver of inclusive economic growth, sustainable development and societal transformation.
The Mobility Indaba took the form of an "unconference" during the week and a public event during the weekend. The unconference was a separate upstairs space where community, policy makers and key role players could explore actionable ideas. While the weekend event took place in the large ground floor and outdoor area. This was open to the public and aimed at creating an engaging environment for family and friends to explore active transport. Some of the weekend activities included; Kids Mini Maker Space, Bicycle hackathon, Repair workshops, Kids learn to ride, Monster BMX skate and BMX show, 12 Stories exhibition and local music performances.
See Saw Do was asked to reimagine Kenilworth Racecourse, develop a visual language and implement the design.

Concept development & Implementation
Navigation
A key design challenge was to develop a navigational system that could create a strong visual language throughout the large space while intuitively encouraging participants to explore what was on offer.
Un-Conference Space
The un-conference was a separate upstairs space where community, policy makers and key role players could explore actionable ideas. We developed a plywood setup for each of the five rooms. Each setup consisted of relevant infographics, a writing board for the ideas generated and a stage.
12 Stories Exhibition
We curated a series of 12 stories, each story consisted of a large scale wheat paste design, written story and object.
Coffee Shop
The Coffee Shop became a key meeting place to hang out at the Mobility Indaba.

Learn to Ride with BEN (Bicycle Empowerment Network)
The Learn to Ride space aimed at teaching children the rules of the road while they whizz around the mini city. We were asked to design the 100m loop, which included plywood city cutouts, road marking and a working traffic light.
Mini Makers Workshop
See Saw Do was asked to develop a mini maker space that would form part of the Mobility Indaba children's program. With the theme of active mobility in mind, we aimed to engage children in the process of drawing, making, assembling, redesigning and hacking.
The environment consisted of pre-designed push bikes which could be easily assembled with basic tools, extra loose parts for re-design or designing your own mode of transport and a ramp to test your ride
